YURGENSON Georgy Alexandrovich

(2000), corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (2002), honorary citizen of the Chita region (2001).
Graduated from Kazan University (1959).
In 1959–1961 he carried out geological survey work on a scale of 1: 200,000, in 1961–1995 he worked at the Transbaikal Scientific Research Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the USSR Ministry of Geology, and Roskomnedra of the Russian Federation.
In 1977–1980 in Afghanistan, during the exploration of deposits of cuprous sandstones (Ainak), celestine (Kortau), emeralds (Panjshir), rare metal pegmatites (Nuristan), he advised geological survey work within the Kabul block.
Since 1995, head of the laboratory, leading researcher at the Chita Institute of Natural Resources SB RAS.
Main works in the field of mineralogy, geochemistry, genesis of ore deposits and gemstone raw materials, technological mineralogy, typomorphism of minerals, deep prospecting and assessment of ore content. He developed the concept of the formation of ore-bearing quartz veins, new quantitative methods for forecasting, prospecting and assessing mineralization. He substantiated a new direction in genetic mineralogy – cryomineralogenesis. One of the organizers and chairman of the Chita branch of the WMO RAS.
Participant of the international symposia in India, Afghanistan (1977, 1978, 1979), China (1996, 1999, 2002, 2003).
Author and co-author of 360 scientific publications, including 12 monographs published in Russia, India, Afghanistan, China, USA, has a patent for an invention.
Excellence in subsoil exploration (1974). Awarded medals, incl. “For merits in subsoil exploration” (1983).
