Annotation he article considers the main features of the regional electoral cycles’ development in the Republic of Buryatia. Attention of the authors is attracted by the general ideological connection of the elections within the framework of one electoral cycle. The features of the course of “long” and “short” electoral cycles are determined. A “long” electoral cycle implies a significant time gap between elections, which leads to the need for members of political parties to constantly demonstrate their ideological commitment. In regions of Russia with a low level of population density, in many cases this is an excess social phenomenon. The authors note that during the “long” electoral cycle 2016–2019 in the Republic of Buryatia, none of the elections were combined with each other (elections of deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation in 2016; elections of the Head of the Republic of Buryatia in 2017; Elections of the President of the Russian Federation in 2018 (spring) Election of deputies of the regional legislative assembly (autumn 2018); election of the mayor of Ulan-Ude in 2019). As a result of the elections held annually in the region, the political situation was constantly tense. The authors revealed the peculiarities of manipulating the data on the appearance of the population in elections at different levels. The main mechanisms for increasing the turnout of the population in the elections are determined. The authors of the article draw attention to the features of inter-party agreements in the regional political system. The article defines the features of voting on the proportional and majority parts of the electoral systems. As a result, the authors conclude that in the context of the “long” electoral cycle, the ideological component of the elections contributes to a clear design of party platforms, which strengthens opposition parties, but weakens the “party of power”. In addition, the “long” cycle potentially increases the number of “real” and “invented” conflict lines of opposition between the authorities and the opposition, which can destabilize the situation in the region
