Annotation Abstract: The article analyzes the development trends of the regional electoral process in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). In Russia, this process is divided into several stages. In the 1990s under conditions of asymmetric federalism and wide regional powers, local political and socio-economic factors influenced the regional electoral process. In the 2000s there is a centralization of the state and the construction of the “vertical” of the executive and legislative branches, during which party and electoral reforms were carried out, direct elections of heads of subjects, were canceled. The influence of the federal center on local elections is increasing. After the return of the practice of direct election of heads of subjects in 2012, a new stage in the regional electoral process begins. Some subjects of the Russian Federation preferred the mechanism for appointing governors to the federal center. At this stage of the electoral process, one can observe elements of competition in regional elections. In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), a stable situation has developed in the conduct of local elections. Since 2014, the republic resumed the practice of direct election of head of constituent entity, two governors were replaced as a result of elections. Elections to the local legislature of Il Thuman generally reflect a federal party representation in which four main federal parties are present. In the context of the manifestation of a protest electorate in the regions of the Far East in recent years, a candidate from the opposition party won the republic’s mayoral elections in Yakutsk. At the municipal level elections in Yakutia, one could also observe relative competition. The evolution of the regional electoral process in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is developing towards relative competition in local elections
