The results of the longitudinal profiles analysis of the Katun valleys (from the mouth of the Kaznahta to Kadrin rivers) are presented. The aim of the article is to classify all erosion terraced levels identified in the relief, to estimate the depth and intensity of the erosion cut at various sites of the valley, and to determine the degree of climatic and tectonic factors influence on the formation of the Katun River terraces. All ledges of terraces expressed in the relief were determined during the field observations and interpretation of high-resolution satellite imagery. High-rise position of the terrace and the river was calculated by topographic large-scale maps.
It was established, that the terrace remain parallel to each other and their height on the edge of the river increases down the valley direction. The cutting-in terrace like a “fan” split into multiple erosion levels. Such morphology of valleys is created by the regressive erosion developing upwards on valleys from the mouths of the side tributaries or on the sites of the riverbeds slope change. The fanlike type of splitting the terraces is caused by activity of exogenous processes in the conditions of the general basin elevation. For the section of the Katun’s middle stream thirty erosion-accumulative levels have been pointed out, characterized by a certain hypsometric position. Тhe levels, extended on lengthy areas, conform to individual erosion-accumulative stages of the basic valley, and singular terraces, as usual, are timed to the mouths of the side tributaries and local raises as the most dynamically active sections of the valleys. The erosion cutting depth of middle terraces for each level is 5…12 meters and 10…20 meters for high terraces
