Annotation Oil refining industry is one of the significant industrial source of pollutants in the environment. Soil polluted by organic components is well studied in the impacted areas of oil refinery plants. However, information about element concentration in soil is insufficient within these areas. This study presents the assessment of soil pollution level by chemical elements in the impacted areas of oil refineries in the city of Omsk, Achinsk and Pavlodar. The total concentration of 27 chemical elements in soil was determined by an instrumental neutron-activation analysis. Geochemical specialization of soils with respect to clarkes of the earth\'s crust (according to N. A. Grigoriev, 2009) is expressed in the impacted area of Omsk refinery plant as Hg11 >Br10 >Au6 >Cr2; Achinsk refinery plant – Br20 >Au7; Pavlodar refinery plant – Hg24 >Au4. The total soil contamination index is 27 units in the impacted area of Omsk refinery plant, 28 – Achinsk refinery plant and 13 – Pavlodar refinery plant, which all corresponds to moderately hazardous pollution level. The geochemical specialization of soils relative to clarkes in the earth\'s crust (according to A. A Besu, 1981) changes in a set of elements and acquires formulas in the impacted area of Omsk refinery plant as Br8>Au7,9>Cr5>Sb3,8>As3>Hg2,7>Hf1,8>Co1,8>Zn1,6; Achinsk refinery plant – Br15>Au10>Sb4>As4>Cr3>Co2,5>Zn1,7>Hf1,7; Pavlodar refinery plant – Au5>Hg4,3>Sb4>As3>Cr1,8. The total soil contamination index also changes the indicators in the impacted area of Achinsk refinery plant 35 units, which corresponds to hazardous level pollution and in the vicinity Pavlodar refinery plant – 13 (allowable level). The factors of arsenic, antimony, chromium and mercury release may be various operations on objects of oil refineries
Key words oil refinery plant; chemical elements; instrumental neutron-activation analysis; clarks Earth\'s crust; soil, geochemical specialization; arsenic; antimony; chromium; pollution level
