This article examines the transformation of the image of Vasily Manchara – the national hero of Yakutia – in literature, analysing its role in shaping political identity and social attitudes through the lens of modern social and political theories. The study is relevant due to the profound influence of artistic images on identity formation processes, as they penetrate public consciousness via emotional engagement, value systems, and stereotypes. The research object is the perception and interpretation of literary images of national heroes in political and cultural discourse, while the subject focuses on Vasily Manchara’s literary image as a factor in shaping political identity and social attitudes in Yakutia’s socio-political space. The study aims to determine the role of Manchara’s image in identity formation by analysing it through various political theories. Key objectives include: tracing the evolution of his image across different historical periods; assessing its impact on socio-political perception; examining its connection with social identity formation; and identifying authors’ hidden mechanisms for expressing ethnopolitical ideas under censorship. The hypothesis posits that analysing this literary image through political theories enables deeper understanding of national identity and collective memory, potentially leading to reevaluation of traditional views and development of antidistortion mechanisms. Methodologically, the research draws on symbolic politics theories (M. Edelman, U. Sarcinelli), which elucidate how artistic images shape collective consciousness. The analysis reveals Manchara’s dual nature: as both an instrument for propagating dominant ideology and a means of preserving ethnic and cultural identity despite official censorship. By examining how writers translate political ideals and myths through literary means under restrictive conditions, the study also highlights their role in projecting solutions to social conflicts. The findings contribute to developing strategies for preserving the authenticity of cultural heroes against political manipulation, offering insights into the complex interplay between literature, identity, and power dynamics in regional socio-political contexts.
