Annotation A detailed study of the hydrological regime of lakes is an important task, but it should be noted that it is complicated by the lack of systematic ground-based observations. However, now it is possible to study the morphometric characteristics of lakes using techniques of remote sensing (RS), with the help of satellite monitoring data. Space- based observations provide a good visibility of images and the possibility of obtaining information in vast areas located in remote regions. As well as the advantages of space observations lie in the relevance of the data at the time of imagery, the high speed of data receiving, accuracy of data processing, information content (existing types of remote sensing allow to see details not discernible on conventional imagery), and economic feasibility. For distant learning areas of water surface of lakes on space data, the methods of processing of satellite images are used, such as the definition of multi-channel spectral indices, thematic supervised classification, linear separation, single-channel classification using the threshold of separation. To study the water surface of lakes in the area the method of decryption water surfaces for multi-channel spectral indices MNDWI is used. The area of water surface of lakes is determined by Landsat TM and ETM +. By using this method, the changes of water surface area of twelve lakes Argun River basin: the 1 st Duroevs- koe, the 2 nd Duroevskoe, the Arburak-Nur, the Pandza-Nur, the Horubo-Nur, the Zarechnoe, the Sukhoe, the Sor, the Karabonskoe, the Karabon, the Blizhnee, the Bakalejnoe were observed , in the period from 2006 to 2015. The changes in water surface area are represented in the graphs and influenced by the climatic conditions of the region, as well as the mode of water supply of the Argun River
