In this work the author has looked into the physical, geographic, social, economic and climatic conditions of the development of health and recreation resorts on the example of the areas Khakusy, Kuchiger, Umkhey and Alla. These areas are located on the northeast shore of Lake Baikal in Severo-Baikalsk and Kurumkansk districts of the Republic of Buryatia.
In this work the results of author’s research are presented including the field observations and polling of the resort visitors. As a result, the author has obtained the following data: duration of recreation in the observed health recovery areas; place of living of resort visitors; their gender and age structure and their social status. The resources that attract tourists and patients as well as their demands are revealed.
The research of public recreation demands, including environmental, historical, social and economic, and legal use conditions of health and recreation sites is a classic approach of the Russian recreational program. This complex approach allows an estimation of the recreational and resource potential of the areas in question, provision with recreational services, ability of meeting the social demands and requirements of the visitors.
The given results have allowed the author to reveal a number of important regularities of the spatial structure of recreational activities in the Baikal area. One of the regularities says that mineral springs and therapeutic muds represent a key factor that influences the selection of a recreational area for consumers at the age over 50. For young people, however, the mineral springs and therapeutic muds are playing a part of additional objects in their environmental and educational tourism. The predominance of the Irkutsk Region and the Republic of Buryatia residents in the structure of the tourist flow indicates the importance of how close the recreation resort is and how much it costs. |
